The Entropy and Order Series

A collection of abstract works by CESCA are designed to challenge the viewer's perception of the world and question their understanding of the natural order. Each piece in the series is mixed media, utilizing materials such as acrylic, charcoal, graphite, pastel, clay, and metal to convey depth and curiosity.

Some pieces may feature seemingly random patterns and textures, while others may feature intricate, organized designs that appear to emerge from the chaos. The series also explores the relationship between perception and reality, highlighting how one's perception of a natural order can skew their experience of the world. Some pieces may feature abstract imagery that appears to shift and change depending on the viewer's perspective, creating a sense of disorientation and confusion.

What is chaotic? What is organized? Can you find beauty in chaos? Can you be unsettled by order?

Ghost Dance is an abstract black-and-white mixed media artwork that delves into the complexities of subjectivity and perception within the context of entropy, order, and isolation. The piece utilizes a range of textures and layers, inviting the viewer to explore the interplay between chaos and structure. Through the use of ghostly figures and distorted forms, the artwork offers a haunting meditation on the ways in which our sense of self can become fragmented and isolated within the larger forces of the world around us. "Ghost Dance" challenges us to confront the paradoxical nature of our existence, where order and disorder are constantly in flux and subjectivity reigns supreme.

Midnight Waltz evokes a sense of entropy to highlight the fluidity and subjectivity of time. Midnight Waltz is an abstract artwork that skillfully plays with textures, shapes, and tones to evoke a sense of entropy. The painting captures a moment of chaos and fluidity, with forms that are constantly in motion, overlapping and blending into one another. The title "Midnight Waltz" further adds to the sense of movement and fluidity, as if the painting is a dance frozen in time. The use of dark tones and shades of grey create a sense of night and darkness, while hints of lighter tones add an ethereal quality to the painting. The overall effect of Midnight Waltz is to highlight the subjectivity of time, and the way that it can seem to flow in unpredictable, almost waltz-like patterns.

Malleable explores the symbiotic nature of perception versus reality. The artwork uses a striking juxtaposition of texture and color to convey the idea that the world is malleable, shaped by our perception and interaction with it. The piece showcases a contrast between order and disarray, depicting how our perception can assign meaning and structure to our environment, or, alternatively, be swayed by it. Through the interplay of different materials and hues, the artwork suggests that we have the power to shape our reality and either manipulate our environment or be manipulated by it. It invites viewers to reflect on their own agency and the role of perception in shaping their experiences of the world.

Forbidden Cereal is a striking mixed media sculpture that embodies the interplay between entropy, order, and isolation. Its dual-toned black and chrome color palette plays upon the greater concepts of subjectivity and perception. The chrome surface reflects the world around us, and the piece invites the viewer to consider how their own perspective can choose to isolate or congregate. The distorted head figure highlights the malleability of human nature, and our eagerness to take what is handed to us. The piece is contained, and utilizes no color to signify a sense of order. It is up to the viewer to contemplate the ways in which our own choices shape the world and our understanding of it.

Song of Whisper… slow movement turns still, thoughts cease, time freeze. When the hushed tones of voice create a song, does it make you feel uneasy or calm? Do you join and dance in rhythm, or frame yourself on the wall? Do you join the action, or wait for time to fall? Do you hear the whisper? The hint of a song? The Song of Whisper… you won’t hear for long.

The artwork titled "Song of Whisper" captures the essence of the accompanying poem through its use of texture and color. The slow, gentle movements of the piece invite the viewer to pause and reflect, to allow their thoughts to quiet and their perception of time to slow. The hushed tones of the piece create a sense of intimacy, as if the viewer is being whispered to. The fluidity of the forms and colors in the piece suggest a dance, inviting the viewer to join in the rhythm and movement. Yet, there is also a sense of stillness and contemplation in the piece, as if the viewer is framed on the wall, observing the action from a distance. The piece is a meditation on the duality of action and inaction, and the choice we make in how we engage with the world around us.
